While on a fishing trip in the early 1970s to Great Slave Lake in Canada’s Northwest Territories, Russell Neihart (or Dad as we like to call him) witnessed a guide scoop a spoonful of lard from a container, put it on top of firewood, and ignite it. The lard then ran down the logs and ignited a fire, leaving him amazed. In 1974, Dad, an engineer and entrepreneur, perfected his packaged version of the top-lighting firestarter and named it Uinta Firestarter. Although it didn’t contain lard like he originally witnessed, it worked perfectly. Today, we have kept the original recipe the same, but we now call it EZ Fire Firestarter. As the current owners and the daughter and son-inlaw of the original creator, we continue to manufacture and market the original product from the 1970s.
Our passion to provide you with the fastest, safest, and easiest to use firestarter remains the same. We still use the same naturally occurring, sustainable ingredients and always will. Over 39 years of business and millions of packets of firestarter later, we would like to thank you for letting us light your fire!
